John Reis, during a hiatus in activities with his main band Rocket From The Crypt, created the Sultans and embraced a more lo-fi garage rock sound. 2000's 'Ghost Ship' was a highlight- every song is a three-minute testament to an "us against the world" attitude, wrapped in throaty heartfelt melodies and thick, buzzing guitars.
