Though they'd known each other for several years, Galaxie 500
formed in 1987, and by July the next year they had signed to a label and
released their debut album, the glorious "Today". By the end of
1988 they were flying high, signing to Rough Trade in the UK and
setting off on a world tour. This gig (on a bill with Sonic Youth, B.A.L.L,
and Unsane) features eight of the nine songs on that debut, and
showcases the NY dream pop band's jangly, melancholy sound
perfectly. Fills the void for those of us that never got to see them live.
