In the late 80s, Vini acquired an Akai sampler and set about incorporating it wholeheartedly into the Durutti Column sound. Whereas his vocals had been criticized in the past now he was free to mask that elements with the voices of others, giving a distant, ethereal edge to the words that perfectly match his guitar playing.
