Eddy Current Suppression Ring - Primary Colours
This great Melbourne band's second LP, originally released in 2008 and finally back in circulation. This is often considered their best, and who are we to argue? It's not like the band released a dud, but this seems to be the sharpest distillation of the greatness of ECSR. Watertight Aussie garage-punk with soul and purpose, the band at this stage were absolutely unbeatable. It also got them noticed in a much wider context domestically, seeing them win the much coveted AMP award (Australian Music Prize), winning $30,000 in the process and getting their music aired on daytime TV (the reaction from resident braindead breakfast TV numbnut, David Reyne, was priceless, I do recall) and even commercial radio play. None of this mattered to the band one iota. They danced to the beat of their own drum, and now you can dance to 'em, too. Totally essential, of course.
